I am Kyle James Walker. I work as a data engineer, and outside that I build small tools: things that cut, fold, print or present.
Most of them exist because I wanted one and could not find it. The laser cutter projects came from wanting boxes that fit the thing going in them. The presenting tools came from turning up to talks where the setup did not work. The Python libraries came from doing the same awkward thing twice at work.
How the things here work
The apps run entirely in your browser. There is no account, no upload and no server doing the work. Close the tab and nothing of yours is left anywhere but your own machine.
The projects are on GitHub under an open source license. Take them, fork them, ship them in something you sell. No attribution needed, though it is nice to hear when something was useful.
This site
Built with Astro and Tailwind, deployed to GitHub Pages. Every app in it is a self-contained project: copy its directory out of the repository, run npm install && npm run dev, and it works with nothing of this site attached. That is enforced in CI, not just intended.
The photograph in the header is a stack of sugar cubes, lit from three sides. I took it in 2015.
